The Whole 30

I have decided on January 4th, I will try The Whole 30.  I have "attempted" it before and by attempted, I mean, I downloaded everything and it looked too difficult so I gave up before I began.  I'm not going to do that this time.  My friend, Liz, has completed one round on it and she is doing a second one starting the same day as I.  I'm hoping that with us going through this together, we can hold each other accountable and I am also going to publicly blog to help me stick with it, hence the purpose of this post!

I purchased 3 books to help me with this, It Starts With Food: Discover the Whole30 and Change Your Life in Unexpected Ways, The Whole30: The 30-Day Guide to Total Health and Food Freedom, and The Emily Ley Simplified Planner.

I think these three books will be the key to my success.  Both of the Whole 30 books are very informative, they have basically everything you need to know about the program and if they don't have something, they do on their website!  The Emily Ley Planner is super helpful!  It has one day per page and shared weekend pages, hourly schedule spots from 6am - 9pm with plenty of space to plan out my meals and full month views.

So I sat down with Liz last weekend to go over tips, dos and don'ts, etc.  She showed me that one The Whole 30's website, they have all of these super helpful downloads to get you through your week.  They have shopping lists, additives informational sheets, and lots of guides.  She always would take them with her to the store so she could go over every label before she bought something to make sure that even though it said it was "healthy" that it didn't have additives in it.

Today, I spent time planning out my menu for next week.  I feel like it kind of took me awhile, but I think that once I try some of the food, I will know what I like and what I don't like.  A lot of the meals have avocado  in it.  The last few years, avocado has given me terrible stomach pains and I believe I may be allergic.  I'm going to buy some and give it a try because it is so good for you and has the good kind of fat that you need.  If I find out it is still giving me issues, I will go from there to find something to replace it.

So here is what is one the Menu for the next week:

Monday - Breakfast: Southwest Scrambled Eggs
              - Lunch: Mexican Tuna Boats
              - Dinner: Steak Salad with Cilantro-Lime Mayo

The Whole 30 book has all of the recipes, plus their website has more.

Tomorrow, I will be doing this grocery shopping for this.  I plan on doing a lot of my shopping at Hyvee.  There is a brand new one that has an amazing health food/organic department.  I will also buy a lot of my meat from a couple of local meat shops, one of which is all locally raised meats.

Sunday, I will spend the time prepping everything for the week.  I'm not a "get up and make breakfast" kind of person, so the more I have prepared ahead of time, the more likely I will eat it.

So this is just a overview and introduction of the program and what I will be doing the next 30 days.  I'm going to try to post daily of what I'm doing and how I'm feeling.  Any comments or suggestions along the way are welcomed!

Wish me luck!
